STEEMIT MEETUP IN UYO
Good day guys! Its been a swell day. Really great day.
We had a steemit meet-up in the city of Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state at a cinema!
The theme was :
"THE STEEM BLOCKCHAIN AND STEEMIT 101".
The aim of the meet-up was to familiarize ourselves with the steem blockchain and the steemit platform.
We were about eight who arranged it and only one of us was not on steemit (good for him as he was highly saturated with a lot of information).
The blockchain is a concept really vague to a lot of steemit users who are on the platform and it is something that every user should be acquainted with because the platform is hosted on the blockchain.
To begin explaining, I started by using the analogy of a bank system. A bank employs the use of ledgers to record transactions and such ledgers are used to detect errors in transactions and also keep records of transactions as well. The same thing can be said of a blockchain, it is a ledger system as well but a digital open source one which is not hidden from anyone. Meaning transactions made on the blockchain are open to all and unalterable. It records all transactions ever executed and these data are distributed in a database.
This database is actually updated on a regular basis and these updates are done in batches called blocks. Blocks are also created by miners(for the bitcoin blockchain) and witnesses (for the steem blockchain). Then this new blocks created are incorporated with the previous ones to form chains and this gives it the name blockchain. It was originally termed block chain by Satoshi Nakamoto who was the creator of the blockchain hosting bitcoin but in time the term evolved to blockchain.
I then went on to enlighten them on the uniqueness of the STEEM BLOCKCHAIN. The steem blockchain was launched in March 2016 but it has beat transaction records and is currently the top BLOCKCHAIN on bloctivity.com . The steem blockchain also boasts the fastest transaction speeds, as fast as 3seconds. All these features have made the steem blockchain one of the favorites and a mass adoption of the currencies hosted on it.
I explained the basics of the steemit platform, highlighting it's features. I talked about it being a social media platform and it's uniqueness too. It is a social media network with a difference because users can actually earn on it which is really something rare.
I then talked about the concept of upvoting, following, commenting and other basic knowledge needed for a steemit user to have a nice experience. I rounded up by giving a few tips on steemit.
i followed you :)
