How to become a Successful Steemian

Steem greetings,
A few days ago, I started to share my experience about some of the things I did to become a successful and reputable Steemian during which I encouraged newbies to read it, learn it and ask questions. You can read more about how to become a successful Steemian here:

Today, I will talk about comments, resteems and upvotes as more tips based on my steem experience;

Comments, Resteems and Upvotes

Every Steemian has the upvote, comment and resteem buttons every time they login to Steemit. It’s very easy to upvote, resteem and comment but the question remains but before you do any, you need to ask yourself a series of questions;

  • What kind of content am I upvoting?
  • Why am I upvoting or resteeming this content?
  • Did I read and understand the post before making the comment?
  • Is my comment real? Can my comment inspire or motivate or connect with the content creator?
Resteem

It’s very common to visit Steemians blogs and find them resteeming almost everything in such a way that it’s difficult to locate the Steemian’s passion. Before you resteem, ask if it’s quality content worth resteeming and if it aligns with any of your steem passion.
I will recommend that newbies should focus on resteeming quality content that aligns with their passion or what they are blogging about. It’s very easy for a steemian blogging about agriculture to resteem the post of a homesteading steemian or an agricultural Steemian compared to if the same Steemian had to resteem the post of an IT or gaming Steemian.
This means, instead of randomly selecting and reading Steemit blogs, it will be best and easy for you to read blogs of people who share the same or similar passion with you; thus making it easy for you to know whether to resteem or not.

Upvote

Like resteem, I enourage newbies not to randomly upvote posts because they have the upvote button in front of them.
Before you upvote a post, read it. It’s very important to know what to read and when to read it.
For instance, If you were participating in a contest, it’s important to read other contestants posts before upvoting them. If you do this, it will be easy for the other contestants to do the same to you as compared to a random steemian who wasn’t participating in the contest.
If you were writing a blog for a community, it’s important to read other blogs from that community before upvoting them.
If you wrote and published a post about your passion, it will be best if you searched for similar blogs, read, comment and upvote them. If you do this, it will be easy for the other steemian to do the same to you because he/she will easily feel the connection since you both share the same passion.
Truth be told, it’s easy to upvote quality content that aligns with your passion or interest as compared to upvoting random content
Upvoting someone because you want them to upvote you isn’t going to accelerate your Steem growth. Upvoting someone because their content is good and because you both share some things in common is what can easily earn you juicy upvotes.

Comments

A lot of steem newbies think upvotes are better than comments but I will say a meaningful and genuine feedback is better than an upvote. Genuine feedback (comments) builds relationships and open up avenues for further dialogue and support while upvotes don’t. Building relationships on Steemit via comments is the best way to make money. It’s very irresistible to pass by genuine feedback without upvoting and it’s very meaningful to always leave people genuine feedback because it’s the only way they can know their worth.
As such, I recommend that newbies should use their limited resource credits to comment on posts as opposed to upvoting because their upvotes are very small and may not be noticed but their comments, will easily be noticed and open up an avenue for permanent of constant support.
