Rewarding excellence phase 2. Funding education using SBD to provide educational materials to assist poor students/meetup (Edusteem Project, Update # 1)

The level of poverty, which is affecting all aspects of life including education is alarming, as described in my last [post]. Parents/guardians cannot afford to take care of the basic educational needs of their children/wards, due to many challenges mentioned in the introductory post of this project.

Why Edusteem Project?

My attention was drawn to students sitting on the floor to write from the board, when I visited Government Secondary School (GSS), Mararaba, Nasarawa State of Nigeria. I noticed too that more than 90% of them had no books or writting materials.This pain has given birth to the 'edusteem project', which aims to provide educational materials to the less priviedged in the society.
From my findings, the problem of the inability of people to afford good education is not perculiar with Nasarawa State alone but all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, though, some states are better off.

Our Vision

No child in Nigerian schools will lack key stationeries and facilities which promote life long learning.

Mission Statement

Edusteem is a not-for-profit organization, which provides educational materials to indigent students in Nigeria, build capacities of both students and their teachers that help promote lifelong learning, leveraging the steem block chain.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

We aspire to reach five (5) million students in Nigeria, targetting about 0.85 million/geopolitical region.

Achievements So far

• A letter of intent to pay a visit to GSS, Mararaba was submitted.
  

The Head teacher (Pricincipal as we call them in Nigeria) has approved our letter. He said they are waiting to see us on the date we chose for the program.

• Payment of N40,000 (~140 USD/35SBDs) for the production of 300 steemit branded exercise books and a banner. This is the receipt of payment.

• We have paid for the design of a banner to create awareness of our visit to GSS, Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
  

• The branded steemit exercise books have also been designed.

Almost all is set for our program at GSS, Mararaba, slated to hold on Wednesday 28th February, 2018 at 12 noon (- 1 UTC) in the school hall.

Funds Realised As At 23/02/2018

• @maryfavour's donation of=10 SBD
• @charisma777 gave a donation of= 3SBD
• @stadex donated = 2SBD
• Liquid SBDs paid out from my 1st post of this project = )17. 257SBD

Total SBDs realised for the project so far = **32.257 SBD's out of 488 SBDs

Note Please: We paid for 4 T-shirts and to design Steem logo on it for N5800 (5. 8SBD), we paid for renting projector for N7000 (7SBD) and also paid for snacks and drinks for N15000 (15SBD). Total is 27. 8SBD. We spent 35SBD's for the production of 300 exercise books and with the purchase and printing of t-shirts and hirring of projector. We have spent a total of 62.8SBD's as against 32.257 realized for this project.

Our Resolution and Call To Action

Execution of 'edusteem project' would be according to the value we realize on a weekly basis.
The meetup will also hold as planned. We would like to sieze this opportunity to invite all those resident in Mararaba, Nasarawa State to join us at GSS Mararaba. A live streem of parts of the Nasarawa meetup would be explored using dlive.io. Feel free to join us.
