Where are the most Google searches for STEEMIT coming from...? And WHY?
I wanted to know which regions in the world are the ones most prolific in searching for STEEMIT on Google, so I went looking for the answer.
Happily, Google provides a very useful little tool called Google Trends which allows you to find out which regions searches come from. You can even narrow it down into smaller areas too. The answer surprised me. I thought there would be lots of searches coming from more Western nations, such as the USA, UK, Canada and those in Europe.
But no, in fact African nations, South Korea and Venezuela are actually leading the pack for those who are using Google to search the term STEEMIT.
The top 10 regions searching the term "STEEMIT" are:
- Venezuela
- Nigeria
- South Korea
- Myanmar (Burma)
- Indonesia
- Bangladesh
- China
- Croatia
- Pakistan
- Slovenia
This map shows where the highest concentration of search terms comes from.
The more blue, the more searches
Why are these regions accounting for the most searches?
Well, obviously it's virtually impossible to say why people are putting the STEEMIT search term into Google, but it's interesting to me that a lot of these nations are experiencing grave economic hardship. Are we seeing the start of people turning to Steemit to help with the financial situation of people over there? I would theorise that this is possibly the case, and that in itself is making Steemit a powerful entity.
Promoting STEEM is a two way street for driving economic growth
One of the greatest ways that the Steemit platform can really help people is when people choose to become promoters. The more people who come onto the platform, and the more investment that is driven into the platform, coupled with the fact that almost everyone is happy to hold their STEEM as STEEM POWER (thus locked in for 3 months minimum) is driving an economy where demand will outstrip supply. And in an financial ecosystem, when this happens, the price goes up.
So it doesn't matter whether you are holding very little STEEM or are a whale sitting on tons of tokens. Ultimately, the more widespread adoption of the Steemit platform (and other sites that utilise the STEEM blockchain of course) means that the value of STEEM is going to rise.
We have started seeing this happen over the last few months, certainly since the start of the year (OK, we know there's been a bit of a fall recently, but this is being played out across the entire Cryptocurrency sector), and it's interesting that it wasn't that long ago we were all talking about the mythical $10 STEEM price. Well, I don't really think anyone is talking about that anymore. Now, I'm starting to see people talk about the $100 price, or maybe even $500 or $1000.
You're talking about a $1000 STEEM price? Holy shit!!!
Yes, I really am. And I don't think this is beyond the realms of impossibility in the next couple of years. Two years ago, the price of DASH was roughly the same as what STEEM is now.
Right now, whilst the price is still pretty low, there has been a significant amount of jubilance amongst people, especially those in the developing nations, where even a few dollars can make the difference between being able to buy food and other essentials. Can you imagine what it will be like when the STEEM price (and assumably the freed-from-its-dollar-tether SBD price) is up in 4 figures?
I've seen over the last few weeks the incredible changes to people's lives that your generosity and upvotes are making. Especially in some places in the world where economic hardship is hard to imagine for those like me who live in affluent Western nations.
I have, and continue to pledge, to spend time daily curating on promoters posts, and personally I tend to pay particular attention to the promoters in Africa, and I encourage you to do the same, finding what works for you.
We owe a real debt of gratitude to the people who are tirelessly campaigning for STEEM, and one of the things I've personally been involved in is the creation, and massive growth, of the #promo-steem tag, which is one of the fastest growing on the platform.
It's great to see that even google search is very accurate on this one, we cannot throw away the fact that countries with financial hardship are really searching for this blockchain.
I love this point of yours here;
You need to see the joy on the faces of people to hear that they can make a dollar simply by posting things online here. As a promoter this is what fuel my passion. The drive to see people smile once more, thanks to the support of #promo-steem.
I'm from Croatia...talking about Steemit loud and clear for a long time :)
That's the spirit @cmoljoe. I look forward to visiting your country one day. Perhaps we'll have a meetup!

Budem! Hvala.
I think steemit is a great platform for the undeveloped country like nigeria and Pakistan and other....steemit is going more popular that i think now every country is aware of steemit..I'm also leaving in undeveloped country where not much people know about steemit and cryptocurrency but in future I think everyone will aware of that.
I think you are very right. There is lots of potential in the blockchain!
Definitely quite surprising search results! But you're probably right about why these countries have the most searches on google. Steemit is a great platform to seek some sort of financial stability and freedom. It helps so many people and we can see that, because people make posts how this blockchain has changed their lives and so on... If Steem hits 1000$ in a few years, it would make all of us filthy rich! Gosh... even 100$ Steem price would make everyone rich... Can't wait to see that happening :)
I think it's more than likely that within a couple of years the STEEM price will be in excess of $1000. I do hope so anyway.
Steem price will definitely hit $1000 in few month/years, we just have to key doing our little best to support the platform and make it better for more to join and adapt to it.
I believe you were not far from the truth when you said undevelopment plays a great role in the reason why some countries use steemit the most, but I think being industrous also has a role to play. Nigeria, amongst all other African countries, is a nation filled with people with like minds of industry and hardwork. And this alone has put this country on limelight, and of course on google (lol).
absolutely. You don't get anywhere in life just by sitting around and doing nothing, and the same can be said for this platform too. It takes time, energy and dedication, and I'm seeing it by the bucketload here! Thanks for the comment.
Indonesia tengah menyusul dari belakang,...
I'm sorry, I don't know your language, but thank you for commenting anyway!
Awww very sad. I didn't see my country Ghana on it. This is the more reason why we are doing our best to promote steemit here. One of the approaches is the just ended SGP we had in Kumasi. Gradully we are doing it and in no time we shall put Ghana on the map @anarcotech
Hehe. Maybe it's because there are so many people from Ghana already on it, because of the incredible Promoting thats going on...they don't need to google STEEMIT, they're already there!
I am a big fan of the promo work being done especially in Ghana, Uganda and Nigeria. You guys are really smashing it, and I'm a big fan of your work!
This is incredibly beautiful...i know that one day steem will be most sustainable and productive cryptocurrency.
Thanks for been a helping hand in this community, you are an icon of excellence.
Thanks @setapart. I do my best, and am surrounded with brilliant other Steemians in the promo-steem team.
There is no doubt that people in Nigeria where i also come from are turning to Steemit. Last week Thursday, i was part of the speakers selected to speak to a group of people about Steemit/Steem and i posted about it already. It was amazing response. We still need to do more and spread it even more so it would make it more powerful as you have rightly pointed out. The effect of Steemit/Steem on most developing countries cannot be overemphasize. I look forward to having to speak to more people to join. Thank you for making it easier.
It's great seeing promoters spring forth from Nigeria daily, I look forward to the day we will have over 50 million active Nigerians on steemit. That way we will have over 50 million people and their those that depend on them living on cash out from steemit.
We will have over 50 Million Nigerians adding value daily and also developing themselves.
If this is achieved we will have more developed mind and more resources to carry out different projects.
This is a way out of the current recession facing over 95% of the nations population.
Let's keep promoting steemit till Nigeria become the dream nation we have always dream about.
You spoke well my brother. During @wadepaterson 's interview today with @gringalicious, she said Steemit/Steem has brought about freedom and she is right. Selfish leaders hold citizens to ransom and with financial freedom comes ability not to be thrown aside and tossed to and fro. That is why the minority holds the majority shares so they can have a controlling influence but if that is taken away and everyone is 'equal' and okay, we can stake our claim and when they are distributing 'stomach infrastructure' prior to elections, no one would even go for it because they are abundantly satisfied and they know they are relevant and have a voice which Steemit has provided. Leaders will sit up and do what is right. This is why sime countries are against Cryptos, even banks, because of enslavement. We will keep spreading the influence of Steemit far to the moon. No stopping...increasing the steam for more steeming.
Yeah you are right, indirectly steemit will bring freedom to our people, election will become free and fair, because no one will be interested in their penny.
Steemit will even become a major factor to campaign, the government will know majority earns from it, therefore create policy to favor it. I cant wait for the future when steemit will be full blown
Nice work Mr Holmes! i didnt read all the replys , someone might have mentioned it.. Venezuela was talking about using btc to save the crisis there, but if the people are already pro btc, then that means they are all going to become crypto fans and users. So im not surprised that the poorer countrys will naturally adopt steemit, i was living in Gambia as an african not as a tourist for 6 months, and seriously, one upvote of 4 cents, pays for an adults breakfast.. As for the western disgusting hell hole, sheeple are just happy and docile and content with things like faKebook feeding egos. Early days yet, lets not forget !
