As software engineers in an era reigned by software driven technologies, we are in a unique position to contribute to the global community and have a substantial impact. This also comes with a sense of responsibility and purity of intent, because the weight of this effect is the same regardless of the underlying morality. Which is to say: “good or bad, its just as powerful”

Unfortunately there are many wolves in sheep's clothing. Those whom speak a certain way but actions proclaim another. The more skilled the wolf, the more prey fall victim to its end game.

In the parlance of today, that means the everyday people who become ingrained and ultimately embedded in a system designed to accommodate the central authority. While a travesty, I feel this type of behavior is the remnants of an age-old and dying model… one of centralization, imposition and greed.

Empires, Dictatorships, Kingdoms and Corporate Conglomerates alike—aka the centralized players—will be phased out, and replaced by true democratic, sovereign, and community centric models. And since we are all “under the same roof” as it were (we all share the Earth) this community is global.

I think we are approaching a turning point in terms of dominant models and constructs. We cannot sustain the current de facto practices much longer, or else “the way of the dinosaur” we go. In order to make this shift, it will take a little contribution from everyone. It can be as small or vast as one see’s fit. The movement has started… and us Steemians are the perfect example of that.

Underlying Power of Blockchain

That is what blockchain has brought to the table. While the tech is groundbreaking and the potential monetary gains phenomenal, forget cryptocurrencies, forget moons and lambos… the power here is in the emergence of a unified and distributed contribution model, demonstrating that it can work, and proving it works even better than the status quo! This model is:

• decentralized - and so democratic by nature
• transparent - thus mitigating corruption
• symbiotic - incentivizing inclusion of all participants, thus making the whole effect stronger with each person

Without a community to ban together and create this distributed network, it does not work. The more people involved, the stronger it gets. All People of Earth can be a part of, contribute to, and prosper from these shared contributions. The whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts.

Just look at Steemit. While not flawless, I think the folks involved have done an amazing job. It is a perfect example of how we all can contribute and prosper from a collective interest. We do not need to agree on everything—in fact that would be detrimental to sovereignty—but as long as there is a safe and open forum for discussion, that is perfect.

The Crypto Frontier

I have been cultivating a new social app idea since 2016. It is my hope it can help bring people together, create new fellowships, and demonstrate us Citizens of Earth are more kindred than many like to admit. We are each very unique, and all have our own perspectives and experiences which shaped them. However at our core, we share many things in common… and in a sense we are all family because of that.

At the time the application seemed like an ENORMOUS software and infrastructure undertaking. This was before truly “discovering” blockchain, cryptocurrencies and later Steem in mid 2017. Now I see a key component—a distributed, contribution and curation model—has already been trialblazed by the blockchain community (Steemit as the poster child). So thank you for that!

These new technologies and ideologies are the perfect coupling for what I have been envisioning. I now see an implementation path to take which has kicked this project off. Even more appealing is the future release of Steem’s SMTs (Smart Media Token)… so the next few months here will be very busy, and exciting!
