5 Simple Tips That Can Make You More Productive (all starting with the letter "i")

in #productivity6 years ago (edited)

Productivity has been a passion of mine for a long time. It's been through trial and error, but I've seen the fruit of being organized and having a work-flow that gets results.

One of the key contributors to being more productive is having goals. This might be a little different (and unique) from what you've heard on the topic, so hopefully it will spark some creativity in your own mind to go higher for what's in your heart to achieve.

All goals need to have these 5 things…

1) Your Goal needs to INSPIRE you.

  • If you’re not inspired by it, you won’t be motivated to do it. You won’t have a passion to achieve it.
  • If your goal doesn’t have that “Wow Effect”, then you might need to go back to the drawing board.
  • When your goal is “Lose 40 lbs”, it will feel like your adding even more weight on your brain! And for sure you won’t follow thru, because it just sounds like work. And you already 'work' enough as it is. In fact, you want a break, not more work!

See how being inspired is so crucial to you achieving your goals?

2) You need to IMAGINE your Goal being accomplished.

  • Ask yourself, “What would it be like to ______________________________ ? Wouldn’t that be so amazing?!!”
  • Imagine yourself having it, doing it, beining it!
  • How does it feel?
  • How would it boost your personal self-esteem?
  • If you achieved that goal of yours, don’t you think you’d want to reach even higher and do even greater things?

Here’s a little phrase that I like to use a lot:

"See yourself in the future!"

3) You need to INSERT dates into your goals!

  • Setting milestone dates of Action Steps you must complete to achieve your goal is paramount!
  • If there’s no dates to your goal, then you can be sure you’ll never accomplish it (or… it may take years to finally complete.)
  • By setting Action Dates, that are used as “markers of progress”, you will see a) How doable it is. and b) You’ll be able to monitor your progress on a day-by-day / week-by-week basis. (This also helps when you start to slip and get behind on a particular goal, and that WILL happen!)

4) Your need to INSCRIBE your Goal down on paper.

  • If your goal is just in your head, it won’t seem concrete enough.

  • There’s something powerful about writing something down that reinforces it’s importance to your brain.

  • “A short pencil is better than a long memory."

  • In regards to your goal— write it down and you’ll never frown.

5) INSPECT your Goal every single day.

  • Now, you’re doing good up until this point. But if you miss it here, you miss it altogether.
  • Some people with goals— they can be so excited, and even super organized to write it down in their journal, and even have a sense of accomplishment just because they wrote it down. BUT… because they don’t look at it everyday, they aren’t inspired to act and follow thru with the work that needs to get done in order to achieve their goals.
  • So make sure to look at (and even read out loud) your goals every single day!
