1st Step to Productivity: The RescueTime tool
First step to solving a problem is recognise that there is a problem. RescueTime is a free tool that monitors your time on your computer and mobile devices to compile weekly reports of your usage. These reports will tell you how much time you spent on websites and apps, hence providing valuable insight to which social media platforms are engulfing most of your time. Most of us do not keep track of time spent on Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and the exact amount could be shocking. You might think you're only spending 2-3 hours, only to discover that you are spending 4+ hours daily on such platforms. Nevertheless, the reports are conclusive and will include all the time spent on all apps and websites visited. The website offers a free and a premium version with more features; however, the free version will suffice. All you got to do is visit rescuetime.com, sign up, download the app on your mobile and computer then launch them and sign in. Your reports will be sent weekly to you via email.
PS: Now it could be possible that RescueTime is monetizing from the gathered information by selling them to marketers to target ads more effectively, however, I do not mind this if it is true, because at the end of the day I am getting what I want out of this service so I am thinking of it from a 'scratch my back I scratch yours' philosophy. No one can make me buy something I don’t need.
