Prodigy died at 42, Hip Hop Rapper with Sickle Cell

Today what popped up on my TMZ feed?! Prodigy dead at age 42, and most likely from his disease. He was one half of the group "Mobb Deep" and played a major role in hip hop over the years. To be honest I never really liked him or listened to their music. Well maybe a couple songs but not many. I just remember my favorite rappers having beef with them. One of them was Tupac Shakur on the song "Hit uhm up". In the song Pac talks about them not fucking with him. Then says, "Don't one of you ni##as have sickle cell or something". Well it turns out that he did and battled with it for years. Jay Z on the summer jam stage dissed him that gained a lot of attention. ![Sickle_Cell_Anemia.png]T-Boz from TLC also has this disease and has almost died several times in her life time. I'm sure she right now is thinking about her own condition.

What is sickle cell?
It results in an abnormality in the oxygen-carrying protein hemoglobin (hemoglobin S) found in red blood cells. This leads to a rigid, sickle-like shape under certain circumstances.
Basically, the disk shaped blood cells are sickle shaped. Moving along the body becomes difficult as those sickle cells were made to move around the body. There is no cure for a person who has this condition. The most they can do is maintain with healthy lifestyle.

So now we know what it is we can understand Prodigy's lifelong battle. He attributed his anger towards dealing with the condition. Even though I didn't listen to his music that much. I still understand that he had an impact on hip hop in a major way. For that I thank him and I end with "REST IN PEACE"
