Have you ever heard the term before? Take a moment to recall, maybe you have read somewhere in the past. The image explains beautifully.

Proactive means to control a situation instead of just responding to it. Generally, we take impulsive decisions, losing patience and calmness of mind too. In proactivity we take responsibility. Let’s break the word responsibility: “response + ability”. The ability to choose your response. We often end up playing the blame game. Blaming the person, luck, circumstance or even almighty. We have the power to think of numerous excuses and put forward reasonable arguments to support them.

The language we use in our day to day conversation has a lot of impact. There is a common way to decline, “I am busy these days.” Everyone of us has 24 hours. Instead of using the word busy, rephrase it with priority. Health is not my priority, I don’t have time for it. Similarly, you can rephrase it with other words too.

“Anytime we think the problem out there is the problem” is itself a big problem. “Why I don’t have a better boss?” All of us think of it at some point in life. We are still blaming, Outside-in. We can think of its the other way around. How can I improve my relationship with my boss? Looking Inside-out gives us more freedom. We often postponed our enjoyment and happiness till we achieve our goals. “I will be happy, only after I achieve …” One can be happy just now, no one is stopping you from smiling or laughing except YOU. At least, you can laugh now :D

Don’t confuse proactive with positivity. Proactive is being realistic. We can be positive that we can go out yesterday. Realistically, we cannot because of the lockdown, how much positive one may be.

Just observe your verbiage tomorrow. How many times are you being reactive or proactive?

To quote Gandhiji, “No one can hurt you without your consent.”
