My Weekend @ PRIDE PROVIDENCE RI!!!
Happy Pride Month to all of my Steemy friends out there. As a proud gay woman, I love this time of year. June is National Pride Month in American and as such we use this time to celebrate diversity, love and equality as well as come together to have fun and let loose in support of the LGBT community. This past Saturday was Providence, RI's Pridefest. I have to say my tiny little city in my tiny little state does Pride right. The entire city takes part in the festivities and it's one of the happiest days of the year around town.
We started our day at the vendor fair along the Providence River. South Water St. shuts down for the day and is lined on both sides by all types of vendors and booths. There is an outdoor stage with various performers as well as a beer/wine/cocktails tent. Obviously we decided to make a pit stop there! (I'm the one with the blue hair.)
The Providence River Bridge proudly flying the rainbow flags!
After stopping for dinner downtown, the festivities continued on Washington St. Many of the local bars and restaurants here set up outdoor bars so we enjoyed a cocktail outside before assuming our spots to watch RI's only nighttime illuminated parade!
I even found a new umbrella!
As I reflect upon the good times this weekend, I can't help but feel so full of love and appreciation. We as a society have come a long way when it comes to equality and human rights. We still have a long way to go, but celebrations like Providence Pridefest are most definitely a step in the right direction! Does your city celebrate Pride??? Share your Pride stories below!
Peace,
Jill :)
