For all those who crave being outside in the winter skiing in the mountains this is a juicy little clip from the ski mountain of Steamboat Springs here in Colorado...

Snow reports had been ramping up into the ski season after a drought the beginning half of the year. My friends and I had been patiently waiting for the opportunity to get up on the mountain for a fresh day of skiing..

4AM my alarm goes off and I begin to wake up with my normal routine of a nice hot shower followed by putting on ski socks and calling the snow report. As I listen to Switchboard Ken listing off the overnight totals my jaw hit the floor. We had received 32 inches of fresh snow in the past 24 hours and 27 inches overnight since the close of the lifts just the night before... I panicked and called my girlfriend at the time asking if she would come pick me up immediately.. She say why it's so early and I had almost screamed over the phone saying it's the most snow I have ever seen overnight come get me and take me to the mountain now !!! Our relationship was on the line and luckily she was kind enough to help out that morning...

I got to the hill and realized shit my boots were in the work locker room and there might not be anyone available to unlock the door this early. By some amazing miracle a fellow instructor had already made their way into the building freaking out at the amount of snow that had come down that previous night.. I rushed into the locker and grabbed my boots slammed them on my feet and ran back up the stairs as fast as I possibly could. What an amazing day I was one of the first 50 people in line for what seemed to be a dream! It was unreal.. I still wish I could go back to that very day and relive it over and over again!!!

It was official the announcement had been made while we waited for the lift to open! 34 inches total since 4PM the day before which amounted for the most snow ever recorded overnight in the history of the Steamboat Ski Mountain !!! Cheers roared as we all tried to contain ourselves in the lift line. The Gondola cars started turning and we all rushed in through to get our tickets scanned and stand our place in line. Then all of a sudden after the staff begins to load people I see my brother going through the staff line! Leave it to my closest relative to beat me onto the lift but I was so stoked to see him. Heading up the gondola was a madhouse. The other riders kept coming up with their own plans and everyone had a strategy of where they wanted to go. I went to the opposite side of the mountain and boarded another lift with a crew of other locals. They had an amazing plan of how to get to part of the mountain that was only accessible by snowmobile. We got off the lift and in hot pursuit I followed like a silent ninja. Hopping over other downed skiers and children stuck in ditches while old ladies laid on the ground struggling to manage their balance. We made it out of the war zone and entered into the most blissful experience one could have imagined!!!! Heaven on earth...
