A COMMUNITY WHERE MEN & WOMEN SPEAKS DIFFERENT LANGUAGES

Ubang is a small village in Cross river state of Nigeria. This village is located in between two mountains and comprises of 3 communities. I happened to visit the Ofambe community which was so rocky and scary as i was told that the mountains are filled with wild animals.

The people of Ubang believed God descended in one of the mountains and distribute languages. It is said that after God distributed languages to the men and women of Ubang community, He discovered that the languages would not go round and decided to give other neighboring communities one language for both sexes...

THERE IS NEVER A PLAN TO MERGE LANGUAGES

The people of Ubang has no plan to merge language as those who have tried find it confusing and often make mistakes. The variance in language between the male & female people of Ubang is what makes them unique and they are proud of it.
It is said that any child born into that community knows he or she has to learn the language of his or her sex because if he or she tries to learn the language of the other, will end in futility.
