Finding Purpose
I know that many of you out there feel from time to time that you've lost your way. There are many different ways that we lose our way and path in life. This could be divorce, death, anxiety, depression.. The list goes on and on. We are all unique but go through the similar patterns of life but each pattern is unique to us. We are all individuals with goals, dreams, plans and aspiration to just do more. Before I really get into the purpose of this blog, which is to help you humanize yourself, forgive mistakes and put your best foot forward, I would like to take a moment to relate to you on a personal level.
In the world of social media and Facebook groups, I recently read a post of a lady really struggling with body image issues and finding the confidence and energy to just go about the day. It took me a minute and I really thought about it, but I related to this lady so much. Why? Well, I suffer from Anorexia Nervosa and I have since I was 9 years old. It's not like everybody thinks it is. You know, that I just starve myself until either die or become cured. The fact is, there is so much more to the disease than some think. There is depression, anxiety, in my case, PTSD, OCD and a plethora of other agonizing mental disorders. What does that mean? It means it cannot be cured. One day, year, month, I will be just fine. Then, it hits me. You know, like a ton of bricks. I drop all the weight very suddenly and become the topic of conversation in my family. Right now, I am suffering. I'm only 110 pounds at 5'2 so it's not too bad yet. I keep getting people telling me how skinny I am but the truth is, I eat something and worry about me gaining the weight back. I've only ever been 130 pounds at my heaviest and according to research, the modern woman weighs more than that. Beyond my disorder, I'm a mess. I keep closing people out, pulling out my hair and I can't decide if I want to cry or laugh. Regardless if you have a weight issue or feel as strongly as I do about it, you can relate to me other areas. Is there an area in your life you wish and think about constantly that you want to control? It could be your weight, wallet, career and the list goes on. Now getting into the blog, how do we change our minds to get ourselves to believe that we have purpose? First, we need to think about how we will feel when we accomplish our goals. Now that you thought about it, will your goals ever be accomplished? You may get to where you want but are you going to continue to want more? Does it give you purpose, motivation and even hope? What if I told you that you can find purpose regardless? If you feel important, you will act important. How do we do that? It's time to put you first. I want you to tell yourself everyday that you have purpose and you are important. This is called positive affirmations. We are quick to compliment another but we struggle to say out loud how great we are. I would say something like "Alexis, you are so good looking! You look healthy." Once you feel more positive, you will feel more motivated to accomplish your goals, feel better about yourself and you, right now, will feel like enough. I want to say that I think you are enough. You do have purpose and you are a wonderful and unique individual
