I think it is more then that. I think we suffer a general lack of empathy. Over generations we have hammered home the fact that all that matters is success and the only way we measure success is monetary worth. We do not recognize other values. We admire the biggest and the baddest psychopaths because "they made it". We do not value kindness or even wisdom. It is all centered around profit and if you are not contributing, you have no worth. No empathy. Exploitation is the name of the game and we are all playing it.
