On Wednesday 24th January 2018, I Participated in an afternoon seminar at eket house of starlight company entitled
"population the unfinished agenda".
The occasion witnessed two presentation, Mr Nelson Peter the secretary of the company, Mr Awaowo udoh who was also a guess speaker.
The seminar was largely attended by M.Ps international development Organizations, NGOs working on sexual/Reproductive health and academia.
He summarize on the issues extensively and discussed shows that in 2004, the world's population was 6 billion and by 2020 it is estimated to be 9 billion. IMG_20180129_113223_154.jpg
The bulk of the population growth is in the poorest countries -sub Saharan Africa and large part of Asia are least able to cope with subsequent pressure on food, water, health, education service and employment opportunities.
He said almost all the countries will double in size by 2030.
He said that a case study as also revealed that fertility has remained in at least 5 children per woman for the 40 years and the is no national family planning programmes and modern contraceptive use is
2.4%. FB_IMG_1506548366740.jpg (Google Images)
The current population is 14 million and already face massive food shortage.
He said that with rapid population growth, there will be fewer spaces for education especially for girl and rapid urban growth will create concentration of unemployed youths and that on it's own will be a risk factor for civil conflicts, and will increase sexual activity through prostitution, sexual harassment assault and rape.
He also pledge with everyone to join hands and eradicate this kind of thing from our dear country and make it a better place to live .
God bless and help us.
God bless steemit.

Great article. It's sad that those who can least afford to have children tend to have the most. If one considered that having fewer children would give them a chance to be better educated it makes sense to have less kids so that when they grow up they will have a better future.

well there was an adage that the wealth of a man is in his number of children and i still totally agree with that cos with larger number you can achieve greater things...."together we do it better"

just my own opinion and well done on your write up

I just remember the movie titled "What Happened to Monday"

Beautiful contribution to the society. Steem on.

In Africa it seems to be a crime for a couple not to have children after the first five years of marriage. Maybe its time for that mentality to change. Marriage is mainly for companionship before the kids come along if thats necessary and 'affordable'!
