US Presidential debate - How low can you go?

in #politics8 years ago (edited)

Sunday 9th October 2016 The world looked on - stunned shocked and awed.

Stunned by the pettiness of the issues raised by the two candidates, one of whom is set to become the most powerful and influential human being on the face of planet Earth.

Shocked by the debased levels of insult hurled by the two combattents as they battle to prove who is less morally corrupt than the other.

Awed by what the future holds for the world when Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton becomes president of the United States of America.

The tv coverage of the debate went out to some 80 million viewers worldwide and the candidates were given 90 minutes to make their impression - The most unique of opportunities for any bastions of a better world to impress their higher ideals upon society.
How Plato or Socrates would have envied the opportunity to impart their wisdom and philosophy and attempt to re-set the moral compass of humanity.
Given the unique platform provided to inform the world of their plans to improve the lot of society - did they put forward their plans of ending famine and disease, restricting oppression or improving human rights?
No - The time was spent by both parties attempting to undermine the other in the most insulting manner they could muster whilst attempting to prove the morality of themself no less low than their adversary.

The following day there appears to be little intellectual reaction. It is as if the subsidence of meaningful political debate has gone unnoticed by the media and the general public. There is plenty of coverage of the dirty detail of the mudslinging, but all seem unaware of the bench-mark set this dark day.

9th October 2016 - A bench-mark in the decivilization of the human race.

I bailed after the first two "questions". Actually it was the same question asked twice. It was totally irrelvant to reality. "Why did you talk dirty about wimmen?"

Geez Louize...!

The Stoopid is strong with them.

I have no idea what you are talking about my friend but glad to have you onboard :-)

Yep. The good news: It will be technically difficult to limbo-dance this tv-debate.
I am sure they themselves will try though.

About time John Cleese admits that he and his crew devised this worldwide conspiracy of Montypythonising world politics.
C'mmon John! Come out of the bush, will ya?

ha ha - shame the Python team are not still around to satirize the farce and bring it to the public conscience.

You are right, the bar is at a new low. I must vote for the person that will not turn the whole country upside down every time somebody says Pussy...
