CPD & it's 15% debate inclusion criteria.

in #politics8 years ago

I personally can't wait to see the first debate between Clinton and Trump. It is assured to be bad on an epic scale. I was hoping to see Johnson included, but CPD & it's 15% debate inclusion criteria make this seem impossible. The system is rigged, 15% is a huge barrier and it's there for one reason, to eliminate choice.

CPD is supposed to be educating the voter base and requiring the polls to adhere to standard criteria should be included at the core of the polling questions.

Let's setup some assumptions

  • polls typically have a +/- of 3%, meaning even at the 15% mark inclusion should be @12% as polled
  • polls used to determine the debates are by no means standardized
  • polls used are not impartial
  • polls are not done properly and exclude huge sets of demographics
  • debate inclusion should have requirement to have candidate on ballot in all 50 states

Changes:

  • polls should include within them the % 3rd party should need for inclusion

An example of how this would work.

Q: Would you vote for a 3rd party candidate?

The question above eliminates party bias. If answer to above is yes, we query further. Else proceed to options based on current inclusion threshold.

Educate the person being polled on demographics. Something simple like that shows how large or small 15% really is when putting into context.  Note these numbers are not verified.

  • Hispanics, 17%
  • Asians, 5%
  • LGBT, 2%
  • current canidates polling %

Save the extremes in both parties most people are reasonable and would prefer a 3rd voice to express new ideas.

Q: What percentage do you thing should allow Presidential candidates into the debate. Referred to from now on as inclusion threshold.

At this point, you have a baseline for a polling instance to shoot for in terms of 3rd party candidate inclusion. Depending on the moving average of a candidate's polling & inclusion threshold.  Candidates who meet the threshold of the polling instance should be given as an option to the poll taker.

Example #1:

  • inclusion threshold: 9%

Current poll has:

  • Clinton 40%
  • Trump 39%
  • Johnson 10%
  • Stein: 4%

Poll-taker would be presented with Clinton, Trump, Johnson as options

Example #2:

  • inclusion threshold: 6%

Current poll has:

  • Clinton 40%
  • Trump 39%
  • Johnson 10%
  • Stein: 6%

Poll-taker would be presented with Clinton, Trump, Johnson, Stein as options.

I'm sure there are other things to consider to make this sort of poll fair.
