While I do agree with your sentiment about historical preservation, this whole dilemma makes me wonder about the timeline for such things... At what point has a statue lost its educational value? Is there a time for replacing or demolishing such objects ? Do they deserve an immutable status?

I'm sure statues don't have eternal status, for sure. But it's the context here that makes all the difference. Angrily ripping down men because they would have been defined as racist if they were born 200 years later, there's nothing good about that.

Ripping a statue down professionally and legally when they are not important enough to avoid replacing with a nice water feature is fine with me
