Politicians in Romania- Opinion
Politicians in Romania
Introduction
By definition, a politician is a person who acts in a manipulative and devious way to gain advancement. In my opinion, a good politician would act in a devious way to gain advancement not only for himself, but for the country he rules.
If I were a Romanian politician, I would try to focus on the population’s improvement rather than my own, while having a good influence on the politicians in whose hands lays the fate of the country.
Opinion
First of all, being a politician in a corrupt country such as Romania is not so easy if you are a person of good morals and you have high values and principles. In a parliament full of self-centered thieves, I would like to be the one standing out, fighting for what is good and necessary for the people. Hundreds of politicians are keen on gaining power and becoming influential (not necessarily in a good way), being willing to do whatever it takes to get as high as possible, even if this involves stealing money in mischievous ways.
Second of all, a politician is a person of high influence, whether is a good one or a bad one. While the majority of politicians do not really care about the high responsibility they bear, I would try to be the opposite of that. Being aware of the power you behold and using it for the good of the people is what makes a good politician. Alexander Hamilton is a very good example of good use of power. Being the first Treasury Secretary of the United States of America under the presidency of George Washington (1789-1795), he used his unifying power by having a good influence over the president and by giving arguments on the elastic interpretation of the Constitution to his fellow politicians but also to the people. His words actions have echoed in history until the present day, and can be seen in USA’s economy and government.
Conclusion
To sum up, if I were to be a Romanian politician, I would try to bring a change to the corrupt system that the government has brought to life, by being a person of indestructible principles, and influencing other politicians not to fall in the trap of greediness. It is indeed a very long way to achieving a well-functioning system, but the change comes from within.

Ok, but if a good politician means that he is a person that seeks advancements for himself and for his country by acting in a devious manner, for which kind of political decisions would you stand for? Would you stand for the political decisions that would lead to a smaller government (and more liberties for the people) at the cost of your own interest or would you try to be devious in order to convince the people that your decisions are best even if you know they are not?
