Trump Slams Door On Cuba
Trump ended Obama's "completely one-sided deal." Trump refuses to lift sanctions on Cuba until political prisoners are freed, freedom of assembly and expression are respected, all political parties are legalized, and they have free internationally supervised elections.
Trump vows to severely restrict U.S money from flowing into the "Castro Regime."

On paper everything Trump wants sounds great from a democratic point of view, but let me remind you of the hypocrisy of him and past presidents. He cites that Cuba is a communist country and the people have no liberty, but he just finished a visit to Saudi Arabia and had nothing but excellent things to say. Saudi Arabia is a magnitude worse when it comes to the lack of liberty and human rights violations. Women still can't drive, people can't choose their religion without threat of death, they condone modern day slavery, and have no open elections. Trump nor any president in recent history has seen anything wrong with that.
Is Trump being a hypocrite? Does Cuba deserve to be embargoed based on "lack of rights and communism"? Is Saudi Arabia an exception? What's your thoughts on this situation?

Trump like all politicons is two-faced and only cares about what benefits him and makes him and his elite buddies profits, and that's making an example out of any non-puppet capitalist country and sucking the dick of whatever country that benefits the elite capitalists, in this case that'll be Saudi Arabia, the single-worst openly discriminatory, bigoted, and hateful country of them all (in terms of government, not people).
If you doubt what I say, go take a look at the American supported and funded coupes that have plagued Latin America for the last century and how the USA has no regard for human rights violation and in facts supports it, as long as it's in the name of $$$ and capitalism.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Saudi Arabia's government is despicable, and the United States government shows their true colors when they align with such a country.
It's no surprise they're still supporting coupes after all the "regimes" they've toppled in recent history and the over throwing of the democratically elected president of Iran in the 50's.
Saudi Arabia is definitely more of a problem in the world than Cuba(I mean they fucking funded 9/11 for Godsakes) but I'll take Cuba as a good place to start for punishing dictators for human rights crimes. It's better than nothing.
Agreed, after reading through this article (https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2016/country-chapters/cuba) I realized they still have major human rights violations happening today. While I certainly agree we should start somewhere, do you feel that the United States will be viewed hypocritically since our recent weapons deal and visit with Saudi Arabia, especially since Trump didn't mention human rights while visiting?
Don't think so, he told the king right to his face in one of his speeches over there that islam needs to be reformed.
Did he? To my knowledge he only said we need to fight "Islamic radicalism" or something of the like. Saudi Arabia is Wahhabist, it doesn't get any more extreme. So selling weapons to the most extremist country on Earth is generally a poor way to fight for human rights. Every President said we need to fight radical Islam. It means nothing unless you back it up with something.
The problem is he isn't punishing anyone for human rights violations. Cuba isn't good by any stretch, but they aren't the worst either. So if we want to punish human rights violations, why start with the 48th worst offender?
And worse yet, does cutting away diplomatic ties really do it? The best way is most likely to make trade deals and incorporate specified human rights improvements in the deal as a condition to the continued existence of the deal. Obama did such under the TPP; Brunei, Vietnam, and Malaysia all committed to serious improvements in human rights to get trade access to the US but Trump since cancelled the deal and the human rights improvements with it.
That sounds to me like asking them to reform.
