Money in politics is overrated.

If you have enough to get your message out then that is all you need. Giving that same message about thirty times is not going to help your cause.

I was told that outside forces spent about 100 million dollars trying to turn the Texas state legislature blue. And not one Republican seat flipped. I mean I'm sure the local economy thanks you for helping to prop up the economy but I do not think they got what they paid for.

They also threw money to try to defeat Collins. She is a Republican senator in a pretty blue state. This year of all years she should have lost. I think she won her race by 8-9 percentage points. She will be a senator as long as she wants to be.

This is probably a good thing. If pouring money into elections was effective then we could really see rich people buying political power. Money probably does matter if your opponent has none. But as long as he or she has enough to protect his or herself, then you cannot win an election with just money.

This is one of the reasons why I think campaign finance reform as an issue is overrated. If you are a good candidate, then it does not matter how much money is thrown at you. I am not saying that we should let people pay others for their votes but I see a lot of efforts to regulate spending in campaigners as a waste of time.
