Trumps Wall won't work
Trump's wall won't work as expected, or even be build. Here's why:
Berlin Wall
A historical example of a wall not working is the "Berliner Mauer". From 1961 until 1989 a wall divided East and West Berlin. Sure, it's only a small scale model compared to Trump's wall, but the Mexico Wall would be even harder to defend than the Berlin Wall. Between 136 and 245 people crossing from the GDR to the West Germany were shot, but statistics and contemporary witnesses say, many more people crossed the wall by simply digging a tunnel under it. The same thing would happen in Mexico
Planes
The wall won't stop planes from crossing the border. About half of the Mexican immigrants in the USA came by plane and just overstayed their visa. If half the immigrants didn't even need to cross the wall, why shouldn't all of them take a plane after the wall is built?
Ridiculous cost
The wall would cost the US about 25,000,000,000 US dollars. This is more than the yearly budget of NASA, they spent 19,300,000,000 US dollars. And Mexico won't just pay the US 25 billion USD. But who pays the 25 billion if not Mexico? That's right, the US citizens.
TL;DR
So the wall wouldn't just be virtually impossible to build, it would cost a humongous amount of money and also won't work particularly well at keeping the Mexicans out of the US

So true I think he is just saying what he thinks people want to hear.
The point is not to keep out people who can apply for and receive a visa and travel by airline. Those people are at least identified and aren't carrying tons of drugs, truckloads of sex traffic slaves and/or are not actually ISIS invaders who can blend in with the crowds of thousands of unimpeded interlopers who now simply walk across. An unattended wall would be silly, but so is the idea of tunnels being dug out in the middle of the desert without a human/electronic surveillance/drone patrol noticing. Certainly is it not the best answer, and I prefer other methods (large fines and jail time for hiring undocumented workers), but illegal, unidentified, unvetted entrance to our country during times of such great antipathy between cultures is irresponsibly dangerous.
It won't even keep out the people trying to get in illegally. 45% of the illegal population had legal Visas and chose not to leave when they were supposed to. I agree that the border should be monitored but a physical wall is probably not the best option except perhaps for some specific locations. Enforcing existing laws against those who would hire illegal immigrants would be much more effective. Then you just have to watch for the drug dealers and human traffickers. Ending the war on drugs would probably solve much of cross border drug issues as well.
Tunnels have been dug under the existing walls/fencing many times in the past. There are many ways to hide what you are doing including starting your tunnel from within a structure.
I repeat, those who are identified and can get visas are the least of our worries. And those tunnels were from walls across town borders, not the trackless desert that is proposed now. Minimal but smart acoustic sensors would reveal all tunneling anyway.
But I agree that the war on drugs (as well as on prostitution) is a motivating issue. It causes there to be a huge profit motive. I go further, and suggest that the State governments grow, manufacture, and sell at a cut-rate price, all drugs to any adult. They could sell it for pennies on the current dollar, and still make profits enough to fund drug rehab for those who want it. After the panic, revolution, starvation, and cannibalism settled down in those countries currently supplying our drugs, the States could decriminalize small home production and sell yearly licenses by lottery for reputable local suppliers. This prevents smuggling, bootlegging, and pushing. Eventually we could remove all drug laws with no disruption.
But that won't happen because democrats and republicans won't vote for a libertarian (no matter how bad their candidate is, as shown in 2016), and libertarians won't vote for anything but a "perfect" libertarian. Incrementalism is working marvelously against us, so I can't figure out why we don't get it to work for us.
