Political meme wars and tribalistic identity politics.

I’m seeing a lot of negative memes about various candidates in the Democratic primary. It’s worth taking a step back and reflecting on the overall process. There is value in making sure that the chosen candidate can stand up to the gauntlet of a general election, so it’s worth flushing out the biggest concerns about any candidate early. However, Republican groups are actively funding the creation of memes designed to sow dissent among Democratic voters. They’re hoping to create so much polarization within Democrats that the Democrats will fail to unite behind their nominee and Trump will win a second term. You might be helping them.

Maybe you’re a centrist Democrat and Sanders’s economic policies make you uncomfortable.
Maybe you’re rightfully upset by Bloomberg’s past backing of racist stop-and-frisk policies and his history of demeaning comments towards women.

The alternative is a man who is literally tearing apart the foundations of democracy itself by normalizing wanton corruption and claiming dominion over the judiciary branch of government for his own personal purposes AND is bending the system of capitalism for his and his cronies’ benefit AND is openly sexist and racist even now.

By all means let’s criticize and discuss the relative merits of Democratic nominees. However, it’s worth remembering that they’re still all better than Trump, possibly by a wide margin. As a result, we should avoid creating tribalistic identity politics in the Democratic party as it will prevent from uniting around whichever candidate wins the nomination.
