I'm Embarrassed That I Voted For Trump

Yeah, I did it. I voted for the orange buffoon. But before you pile on, let me explain a bit.

I would consider myself someone who leans Conservative but am open to all ideas. I voted for Obama the first time around, but not the second. I do not vote party lines. I vote for who I think may best lead the country. Boy, was I wrong this time.

I have never liked Hilary. I do not trust her. But I liked Bill and voted for him both times. Weird, hunh? Trump stood up there and said he was going to change things dramatically. He was going to drain the swamp. He was going to run this country more like a business man. He was going to speak his mind and tell us what is going on at all times. He was using Twitter to communicate with us (this is before he went off the deep end). I liked all of that. It was time for a change in America.

I live in Colorado. We have a lot of illegal immigrants and it has become an issue. The hit and run rate is very high here because illegals are driving cars and fleeing the scene because they do not want to get caught. So a reform on illegal immigration was appealing to me. A border wall?? Meh, that was never going to happen and was kind of ridiculous. I saw that promise aimed more at the southern voters who wanted "those people" kept out of the country. I wanted more restrictions on how we handle illegal immigrants...especially the ones who commit crimes. I wanted a more fair health care system that would not penalize people but also give coverage to everyone. These are a lot of things that Trump promised. He was not a "politician" so I bought into a lot of the rhetoric. Maybe this guy will actually do something different. As time went on, I saw that maybe he wasn't the best, but the choices were not great. I became one of those voters who took a grenade, pulled the pin, then see what happened. I didn't think things would be any worse.

Well, I was wrong. And I am sorry.

What we got was a man who knows nothing about running a country. A man who measures the size of his penis against the leader of North Korea. A man who constantly lies about things he previously said in the past. A man who doesn't really understand DACA. A man who doesn't have a plan for healthcare. He has nothing to give us.

Trump is a master of diversion. He is a master of appealing to the lowest common denominator. He is a master of manipulation. He is a master of many things, except knowing how to run a country.

Maybe someday we will have a true system that will reward illegal immigrants who contribute to this great country. We will give them an easier system for becoming a citizen. Someday we will have a healthcare system that is fair to everyone. Someday we will have a better system for finding terrorists. Someday we will have a better country.

Someday.

But I know I will not be fooled again.
