Great overview. I'm sure he wanted out of this disempowering culture so rather than go quietly he took his chances and tried to bring some positive change.
I saw a couple of interviews with Damore. He seems quite genuine, and what he says is that he wanted to start a discussion inside Google in hopes of starting change. I fully believe that may have been his intent.
As to his disgust with the PC culture - well, you got that right, of that I think there can be no doubt.
