Will Germany develop a nuclear weapon?
With Brexit, the strongest opponent of more advanced pan-European military coordination is now set to leave the European Union. In addition, Trump administration is pushing European NATO member states to become more self-sufficient in defence and security. Evidently, a power vacuum will emerge in Western Europe, and naturally, the European economic powerhouse is expected take more initiative in guiding the continent towards advanced joint-military capabilities. Is Germany willing to develop its own nuclear capabilities as more defence-related responsibilities will accumulate on German shoulders?
Is this just a question, presumption or somehow fact-based ?
Foreign Policy, Financial Times and the Economist all ran stories in February/March about how Germany might be at least thinking about going nuclear. Considering the political developments, they might be on the right track. Or not. For now it's just a question:)
