Seasteading Project: The World's First Floating City By 2020
Might we see the world's first successful floating city established by 2020?
Just recently the project got one step closer to becoming a reality after the Seastead Institute signed a deal with French Polynesia in order to lay the ground work for the world's first semi-autonomous floating city-state.
It is expected that the project is going to boost the economic activity for the French Polynesia area and it is expected to be a big driver for tourism as well. It is assumed that the project will develop its own special economic zone, which will afford the project political autonomy. The construction is also expected to begin this year and has already been estimated to be around $30 million.
A fresh start on a floating city . . .
The Floating City Project is greatly anticipated by many people, and there are a lot of creative and dedicated people who are invested into establishing this revolutionary and innovative community setting.
Currently the project is still in the middle of collecting data on potential customers, residents and business owners, by use of a survey. It's expected that there will be about 200 to 300 residents to begin with and could grow from there depending on success.
Many might be familiar with this project because of Peter Thiel, he used to be involved with it, but he left the project many years ago. Following the recent success of signing an agreement with the government, it's expected that the next step will be to announce the location for the project.

Wild project. And only 30 million?? I'd imagine this ends up costing closer to 3 billion with infrastructural needs. Thanks for sharing!
that's an average estimate, some say it could be $50+ million or more
Have you ever read a book called "SnowCrash"? This floating city reminds me of "the raft", a floating shanty town that made circuits of the Pacific ocean, following the currents.
I hope none of the residents get seasick.
interesting there are many #architecture projects about #floating-cities
Fascinating to imagine our future ! Very interesting article
Are the domed structures tiered farms? It looks really good but is it self-sustaining?
This looks really sci-fi ^^
Very interesting. Great post.
