RE: Poverty and inequality: one possible government solution

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

I thought that this was a great read but I have a few points that I'd like to mention. I do not think $58 billion dollars is much for the government to spend. To put it into perspective, here is a picture on how much the United States spends on our military compared to the next 8 nations combined. defense spending.gif

And since then, with the Trump administration, they have increased military spending. So the idea that we don't have the money to pay for other programs like education, space, poverty, is a complete lie.

Sort:

We dont need money for Space, humankind has done such a good job screwing up tera just check world abortion rates. Now if you are a #libturd then by all means you are welcome to kill yourself and your children, enslave yourselves. Teach someone to fish-Give a fish starvation ensues. Shalom

I highly disagree with your comments on not needing money for space. Most of the technology the world developed for computers, phones, etc. all came from the space race. While space itself may be desolate and worthless, (which I still don't agree with) the technologies that can come out of space exploration and development are unimaginable.

Well right now the man knows how to fish but he is stuck next to a dried up pond and he can’t afford to move to a new pond. Let’s pay for his move and get him fishing again!

I’m actually inclined to agree with you on the fact that the defense budget can afford to be cut, but the reason I didn’t mention it is because it’s a non-starter for at least half the country. But I’ve seen firsthand how those funds are used, and very little of it goes to the actual service members. Thanks for the comment and the resteem!

Of course! I enjoyed reading the article. I'm thinking about picking up that same book you read too.

Public library, my friend. I love that place. I think you would enjoy the book. I actually finished it the same day I picked it up, it was that engaging. It's not particularly long, and she is entertaining throughout. Definitely worth it if you have even a passing interest in the subject.
