Thanks for the post.
Honestly, Wifi should be run like a utility like tap water, not like a commodity like bottled water: rip off, bad for the environment, drank by conspiracy theorists that think the government is putting chemicals in the water. I would even go as far to say that phone service should be run like this. Wifi should be accessible for anyone anywhere, not for those that can afford it in
This issue is so important, the internet is the most freeing tool mankind has ever created, it allows one to educate themselves on a range of topics, and that knowledge is power. Moreover, that power was previous unreachable for most of the world who could not pay for education, or position themselves in the area of the world where that teaching was occurring. The internet being free changed that access issue and that is beautiful.
Shutting off, or limiting access to that data-base of knowledge, on the basis of some pay-to-play internet billing will really hurt the poorest people's access, and diminish the freeing power of the tool itself.
Perhaps this article will provide some hope in this matter:
This number of satellites would reportedly cost 10 Billion, and the number 4,425 is particularly impressive when you realize that Earth only has 2,271 right now. https://www.windows2universe.org/kids_space/sat.html
Somewhat encouraging but what’s to stop Musk from doing the same thing as the big cable companies? We all know that isn’t his style but you never know. Maybe he decides to sell his interest in such a venture and new ownership does what new ownership sometimes does. Plus, satellite internet has serious drawbacks. Specifically, ping times which are terrible for things like online video gaming. I also heard that Tesla is hemorrhaging money right now. I haven’t verified that by checking out the sources so it could be completely untrue. I think the obvious solution is get the gop out of control lol
Really sadenning. The fate of Net Neutrality was sealed when Trump won. Say goodbye, folks. Enjoy it while it lasts. The bad effects may not kick in right away. Thanks for the post
The only way to reverse this will be a massive Progressive electoral win-which won't happen after they use this to throttle all possible opposition. Seig heil, I guess
Greed does seem to be the motivator and the problem. It is hard not to feel hopeless and powerless when those with power seem to only take action in their own best interest. Can we make Steemit a different kind of culture?
I think a good argument could be made that a publicly funded basic wifi available nationwide would be one of the greatest economic drivers since the development of the interstate highway system.
While that is certainly a concern, i don't think a government regulated is any worse or better then metadata that can be bought and sold by ISP. The only way to prevent any one organization from using all the metadata is a government regulation prohibiting it, or have it so fragmented that its difficult to collect more then a small portion of it. Committing any type of cyber-crime would be inadvisable on such a network.
Thanks for the post.

I have read that Elon Musk is striving to send 4,425 satellites into orbit in order to "blanket the Earth with internet access".

Very informative interview. Depressing, but informative.
Thanks

Sad but true. Too much greed in this world, was bound to happen. What's next?..
Greed does seem to be the motivator and the problem. It is hard not to feel hopeless and powerless when those with power seem to only take action in their own best interest. Can we make Steemit a different kind of culture?
This will give The Donald way more control over the Internet.
F*CK the FCC!!!
I think a good argument could be made that a publicly funded basic wifi available nationwide would be one of the greatest economic drivers since the development of the interstate highway system.
And think of the surveillance state possibilities! If the government provided free Internet access, they'd have easy access to all the metadata!

Oh, yes, it's not going to be any worse for us. I was just promoting it as a selling point for "fiscal conservatives".
Point made, point taken.
