Why does Russia now Attract the Attention of the US Media

Russia has gained so much attention now due to two reasons, the growth of Russian interests in Eastern Europe and Asia, and an old mentality of a Cold War relations that were absent during the 90’s and 2000’s but came back in substitute of American fear towards Russia. With the events of Crimea and the Ukrainian civil war, NATO countries see this as Russia protecting its interests and standing in the way of the shift in influence in Eastern Europe towards the West. It is not only in Europe, but can also be seen in Latin America, Middle East, and especially Central Asia. Russia continues to try to limit US military and political interests, and openly support regimes that the US condemns.

With the recent allegations of hacking and criticism of Russian involvement in the Syrian war, American views this as a new era of conflict. The fear of a new Cold War is not only one against Russia, but Russian boldness to act gives way for other BRICS countries to attain their own interests. Today we can see a semi-Red Scare scenario with the US media collectively broadcasting Russia as an aggressor. It is in America's best interest to combat this growing influence that Russia has if it wants to maintain the role as the world's sole superpower.
