Las Vegas mass shooting

On October, the 1th a gunman fired at a crowd of 30,000 gathered in Las Vegas at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival. (1)
On the same date a knife- wielding-man attacked in Paris at the Saint-Charles train station. (2)
While this two are now being considered to have being acts of terrorism, there is an important difference between this two, being the death toll.
While the victims of the knife attack were 2 women, the mass shooting in Las Vegas has a current death toll of 59 people and over 500 injured. (3)
This recent mass shooting was the 273rd in 275 days in the US. (4) Not only that, but is the current deadliest that has happened in the United states, and the gunman was found to be in possession of 42 weapons. Unrelated coincidence?
With the comparison between the attacks in Las Vegas and in Marseille I want to say that I’m aware that people are the ones that kill other people, not guns, but with guns is way easier.
We must prevent people that want to kill people to get their hands on the means that are going to help them do so.
Some basic gun-reform is needed in the US, at least a universal background-check.
We have to prevent people with severe mental illnesses from getting their hands on guns. We can’t just strike down rules designed to stop people with mental problems from buying guns, as the Republicans did back in February. (5)
I never had a gun, even though I know how to use them, they are just not for me. But I’m ok with mentally sane people, who are well trained, owning them.
I want guns away from severe mentally ill people, I want a universal background-check. You know, baby steps.
We have to start somewhere and do something, things can’t go on like this.
