Speed kills, So lets make cars go faster!

The car, a marvellous feat of engineering, It gets us from A to B much faster than the old horse and cart and is light years ahead of walking. But for all the good the car has done for us, there are side effects to this drug called ‘the automobile’.

These effects are so server, that governments worldwide have installed legislation after legislation, to curb the death toll inflicted by the humble automobile! People protest against most vehicle laws with the word, “IT IS FOR RECREATIONAL USE!”

True, the car is a recreational device, it is used for sports, for camping and travelling or to just go for a drive to relax. But like other, more illicit drugs, the automobile has killed hundreds of thousands of people, every year, world wide. Users and non-users alike. So who is to blame for the car carnage, well there are three suspects.

The Manufacturer: In 80% of countries there are laws limiting the top speed of the automobile on public roads. Here in Australia that limit is currently 110-120 km/h and there are rumours that it will be dropped back down because of recent death tolls (This is why we can not have nice things). So why do manufactures make cars go at speeds 3x this? If the argument is “to allow people to get to their destination faster” then that is all well and good if the persons destination is jail or the grave. This is just bullshit, because a person is not allowed to exceed the speed limit! So all of that extra speed is uselessly redundant.

If it is for more power, that would be good. Nothing like more power, when your towing a fully loaded caravan, with five people in the car going up a steep incline. But again that is BS because I do not see NASCAR or F1 with cars towing caravans with five people in them. And you can not hook up a packed trailer to a Bugatti Verron!!! And you do not need a twin turbo 7ltr V12 to achieve that, that is down to gear and axle gear ratios, with some tweaking to bore and stroke but please do not tell me that 6 extra pistons and 4 extra litres of fuel are a better way to do that, you think I am stupid?!

Not every road is a specially built race track, every person that sits behind the wheel is a professional racing driver!

The Governments: There is little to say about governments and laws. They know it kills but they really do not want to stop it, because they get a lot of financial kickbacks and taxes out of it. Just like guns and tobacco. But really, can they not just limit cars or put the laws onto the manufacture to just curb the speeds their cars go. Like their law says it is 100km/h so why not just limit the car manufactures to 100 km/h. But no, they would rather have cars built that can go 300km/h but tell the driver of said car, that you are responsible for limiting your speed to 100! That is like giving a machine gun to a psychotic killer, putting him in a room full of people and telling him, he’s not allowed to touch the trigger!!!

The Driver: There are at least 500,000 professional racing drivers around the world, your not fucking one of them! Your a backyard Bogan who thinks he is Peter Brock! Guess what, Peter is dead from hitting a tree on a normal road and he WAS a professional!!! Asking a dickhead to drive responsibly is like asking an ICE addict to self medicate responsibly at an all-u-can-inject drug lord’s dugout!

But most of you think you can handle a car as it speeds over 200km/h down a road, and you probably can, as long as it is straight and as smooth as a race track. But what about potholes, pedestrians and children, animals or wet roads, roadworks, other vehicles. If you still think you have ‘The Skillz’ then the death toll statistics says you are a fuckwit!

The speed limits are there because you have no professional skills, because the roads are shit at best, because animals do not know how to use traffic lights and zebra crossings to cross the road, because children are off into their own little world and will just step out and because there are over 5 billion other morons on the road, who know even less about the road rules than you, and they will just do stupid shit. And here is some reality for you, race drivers die, no matter how much skills they have, if something is going to fuck up, they are not going to shake it off and walk away (Ayton Senna, 1998 R.I.P.)

In the end, any one of them or all three of them, are to blame for the senseless need for faster cars and more death tolls on our roads, but sooner or later someone needs to put on the brakes and pull into the curb and just accept speed limits!
