Ohio teens toss sandbag from overpass, critically injure man, police say
TOLEDO, Ohio -- A Michigan man was critically injured Tuesday night when four teens tossed a sandbag from an overpass on Interstate 75 and it crashed through a vehicle's windshield, reports say.
Marquise Byrd, 22, of Warren, Mich., was in critical condition Wednesday at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, the Blade reports. He suffered a head injury.
The four teens, three 14-year-olds and one 13-year-old, were being held in the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center. It is cleveland.com policy not to identify juvenile suspects unless they are charged as adults.
According to the Blade, each teen faces a charge of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. Lori Olender, deputy prosecutor of the juvenile division, tells the Blade that homicide charges will be brought against the teens if Byrd dies from his injuries.
