The current 32 borough commands will merge into 12 larger units.

Scotland Yard says the reform will save management costs, remove inefficiencies and allow more officers to be allocated to deal with young people to tackle problems such as knife crime.

It also says that the estimated £73 million a year savings will also allow more police to work on child protection, domestic abuse and other “safeguarding” challenges.

However, Westminster council warned that the reforms were a “false economy” that would harm local policing.

The Met warned that its officer numbers will drop to 30,000 within two months.

The main change will see the current 32 borough commands — under which each area has its own police team — merged into 12 larger units covering up two or three boroughs each.

Such BS. They've got G4S minimum waged slaves, doing many of the roles and responsibilities that were previously fulfilled by police constables, numbers of which have been steadily dwindling in recent years.
