Currently I'm having to manually send payments from Steemit. In the near future we hope to have a script that can handle the payments automatically. Since there is no money on the poker site and all games are freerolls, it keeps this completely legal in (I would assume) every jurisdiction in the world.
It could even be monitized legally in various ways, which we've already begun discussing. And if poker for real money were to once again be accepted within the US, this software is capable of being completely integrated with the Steem blockchain to allow people to deposit/withdraw much like what Seals with Clubs does with Bitcoin.
The site right now uses play money only. The SBD earned from post about The Steem Poker League go towards freerolls. We have two different Leagues currently, one which is for new to casual players and another which we are currently hosting on PokerStars for more experienced players.
We will move the Pro League over to our software after this season is over. We're giving out a Steem Poker Championship bracelet to the winner in points on the season and holding a special game for the top 6 finishers as well.
Right now, we've been getting the poker server up and running, got the SSL and API up yesterday so now we can start to find out what kind of fun things we can produce between the two API's. So far, we have not found anyone that's very familiar with either of these API's so it's going slow but some progress has been made.

It is really nice that you stopped by @ned to check out the amazing work of @tuck-fheman and a few others who put so many hours and so much dedication into running this. It could and is doing wonderous things for the steemit community.

Right now, the @spl team and @tuck-fheman are working on a way to automate payments from the poker site to the blockchain https://steemit.com/programming/@spl/need-coder-to-automate-payments-between-poker-maven-and-steem-blockchain. For now, they are manual posting payments to individual winners accounts on steemit.
