As many of you know, poker has its own language, with various terms we use on the table while playing, I will post from A to Z an extensive and needed list to understand everything that is happening at the table while we play, this week will be a letter B:

  • Backdoor Draw: Term used for straight or flush requests. A hand that lacks cards (usually two) to complete the hand. Ex: you have 5 and 6 in the hand with an 8 on the flop, remaining 2 cards (only a 7 and a 9) to complete a straight. Also known as runner runner.

  • Bad Beat: A bad beat is when you have a hand that is clearly the favorite in the pot and your opponents have very little chance of recovering, ie 90% wins, but they still end up finding the cards they need, and winning the hand.

  • BankRoll: Refers to your funds, the amount of money reserved for you to play poker, enter tournaments, play tables, etc. It is very important to keep track of your BankRoll.

  • Bet: Betting is one of the actions a player can take when it is his turn to act, it is only possible when no player has bet before him.

  • Big Blind: It is the highest mandatory bet a player must make before receiving the cards, made by the player in the position of the same name, it is in the second position to the left of the button.

  • Blank: It's what a community card is called that apparently does not change the value of hands at all. It is a term most used for turn or river cards, it is also known as "brick".

  • Blinds: Compulsory bets that must be made before receiving the cards in each hand, made by the players in Small Blind and Big Blind, the big blind is 2x more expensive than the small blind. it's a blind bet.

  • Blind Level: The level of blinds in a tournament, that is, how much it is costing and how much it will cost in a given time in duration in the tournament.

  • Blind Steal: It is the action of a player to make a pre-flop raise with the intention of stealing the blinds, that is, with the goal of no player calling,in order to get the chips from the table. It is usually made with weaker hands, end positions and as long as no player has placed a bet before you.

  • Blockbet: It's a river bet, out of position and a small value compared to the size of the pot with the goal of trying to determine the value of showdown in the hand, as if studying your opponent and showing him that you have a game, avoiding that the opponent makes a big bet after passing the move. In addition, the blockbet generally discourages the opponent from raising the bet. They can achieve, for example, a cheap showdown in the latest betting rounds ..

  • Bluff: The famous "Bluff", Occurs when a player bets or raises without having the best hand to make his opponents give up stronger hands, can be used in preflop to a blind steal, or to pick up a good pot , remember to always bluff when you are sure that your opponent does not have the best possible hand.

  • Board: It is a way of calling the cards from the table (the community cards).

  • Boat: A nickname of the Full House (One Trip and One Pair).

  • Bottom pair: It is the smallest pair formed when combining the cards of the hand with the community cards of the table, in that pot. Ex. You have 7 8 and the flop comes K-j-7, you formed the smallest possible pair (77).

  • Break Even: Being break-even means that you are neither profiting nor losing.

  • Broadway: What it can be called the largest possible sequence(straight) in poker, with Ace high. Ex (10-J-Q-K-A).
But it is not always the best possible hand since flushes, full houses, quads, Straight flushes and Straight Royal Flush still hit a Broadway hand. Also, the combination of the pre- flop that can form this sequence are called "Brodways or Brodway Cards". Ex. KQ, QT, KJ, etc.

  • Bubble: Its the period of a tournament, where only a few players are to be eliminated without prizes, the last player to be eliminated before the prize zone is usually called the Bubble, or what blows the bubble.

  • Button: Also known as "Dealer Button" is a small round disc that moves from player to player clockwise after each hand to indicate the last player to act in the hand. The "Button" position "Dealer" ABV "Btn"

  • Busted/Busted Out: When the player loses all his chips in a tournament.

  • Buy-in: Buy-in is the entry fee for any particular table or tournament. In tournaments most of this money goes to the total of prizes, except a small registration fee retained by the table or website.

Next week we will dive into the letter C.
