Some hydrologists from Colorada started a research project named Stream Tracker. Scientists using the players' GPS data gather information about the dryness and activity status of small rivers and the waterways that feed them.

The researchers work with a total of 80 volunteer actors in Colorado, Utah, Ohio and Arizona. But they also say they accept more volunteers to expand their research.
