"The River - A Villanelle"

The river flows clear as day,
It sang the song of nature's will.
The wind has come to play.

The fishes swim and sway,
And the waves cannot sit still.
The river flows clear as day.

Leaves and branches float and stray,
The trees shake their leaves in thrill.
The wind has come to play.

Downward, the river goes its way,
Small beasts drank its water chill.
The river flows clear as day.

Today some children came to play,
One tried skipping rock but nil.
The wind has come to play.

The river meets the sea today,
And waters crash with a spill.
The river flows clear as day
The wind has come to play.

What is a Villanelle?

A villanelle (also known as villanesque) is a nineteen-line poetic form consisting of five tercets followed by a quatrain. There are two refrains and two repeating rhymes, with the first and third line of the first tercet repeated alternately until the last stanza, which includes both repeated lines. The villanelle is an example of a fixed verse form. The word derives from Latin, then Italian, and is related to the initial subject of the form being the pastoral.

I think this villanelle is better than the last one. Great job.

Hey vegaron,

I consider the forms of Poetry to be important, too.

A few weeks ago, I posted my "An Unambiguous Tutorial on How to Write Metrical Poetry" which teaches the reader how to properly identify the correct accentuation and syllabication of each and every word.

When th'accents and syllables of lines are pattered their words are usually much easier to recite, as well as to sing, in comparison to th'unpatterned words of free verse, because patterning them doth alloweth for their innate layers of music to emerge—the natural rhythms and notes of those lines become uninhibited—the currents of sound within and between their words being all the more effortlessly able to flow.

Much like the meaning of your "The River" villanelle, which I enjoyed reading.

I hope you'll read that tutorial I wrote. I don't suppose that I am th'only person who would probably enjoy reading as well as hearing you recite or sing some of your own accentual-syllabic verse.

From Lannie.

Thank you Lannie, I've read the post and even bookmarked it. It's incredibly informative—especially for someone like me who likes to try different forms of poetry. As for reciting a poem, it might be possible if I could squeeze a bit of time in my busy schedule but singing is out of the question considering that I'm tone deaf. Lmao.

Really enjoy its rhythm...
The clever selection of diction makes this poem as if brings us to a deep swing of meaning...❤

Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend @vegaron...☕❤

Thank you.
