SPU poetry contest #1: Screams from the Grave

Some nights when the day is done and I lay sleeping
I hear voices of damned souls and monsters screaming
Invading my dreams, disturbing my sleep
Their words my secret to keep

I hear them loudly now in my head, the core of my mind
I feel their pain in my heart and wish i can rewind time
To save them from what punishes their soul
To save them from hell is my purpose, my goal

I hear from this voices deep sorrow and regret
Some for lives wasted and others for promises never met
Some for their sins on earth, lust, greed, lies or vanity
And others have simply gone mad their souls lost all sanity

They beg me to be different, kind, humble and good
So I might escape this gruesome fate of that they wish I would
For these voices aren't from a beautiful place or state or town
Instead their from a tormenting dungeon in hell they're bound

I thought the voices were simply exaggerated screams from a cave
But the tormented souls spoke to me saying we're simply "echo's from the grave"

the storm in my brain is still raging
for life's wind in my head
it refuses to play dead

Now i know the first line wasn't part of the quote but it did help light the spark that enabled me write this...
