Reminiscing
Made from the Middle Kingdom,
Nature was my friend.
Old wisdom were my lessons,
Chickens waiting to be tend.
Streets wore filthy jackets,
Unironed but a leisure wear .
The air held a slight pinch
Like a skunk had danced in the air.
The abundant didn’t exist,
Sins were made, unknown.
Playthings were rare
But easily condoned.
For minors fell like raindrops,
From a corner to the next.
Laughter rumbled the earth
Later, throbbed within restraining necks.
All reflections trapped inside,
Reminiscing the thoughts.
Silently flipping through pages,
Dreaming of memories
Filled with happy distraught.

The Story Behind The Poem:
For the first few years after being born, I lived in a tiny town in China. This poem was inspired by the memories I had as a child while growing up there. I remember helping my grandparents feed our chickens every morning and running around the streets near my house with my cousins during sunset. These were the simplest moments of my life.
