Snow
Snow
Restless angles falling fast,
Like fireflies not meant to last,
A swirl, a flutter, a heavy sigh,
Ghostly flight and there they lie,
All but lifeless at our feet,
Until the children chance to meet,
Then transformation, sudden change,
All the landscape something strange,
Merry men all icy gay,
Little footprints mark the way,
Bunkers full of cherry faces,
Chill grenades and frenzied races,
Hockey pucks and figure eights,
We’re down the knoll and out the gates,
Then close of day comes all too soon,
We’re loath to leave this Martian moon,
We wipe our noses on our sleeve,
And with regret we turn to leave,
Heading home, chill and drained,
Cold and tired, tattered, stained,
Shoes in puddles deeper, higher,
Children drying by the fire,
Eyes are filled with sleepy dreams,
Of steeper hills and frosty streams,
In this imagining we will go,
Frozen angels, falling snow…
