"Ode to a Couple" By Pablo Neruda

I am reciting this poem in a wedding tomorrow and I thought what better way to help really solidify it in memory then to share it on steemit!

My Queen, how beautiful
to follow the path of
your small footprints,
how beautiful to see
your eyes
everywhere I look,
how beautiful your face
greeting each new day,
and sinking
every night
into the same
fragment
of shadow.

How beautiful
to see
time running
like the sea
breaking over the prow
formed by your breasts and my chest,
by your feet and my hands.
The waves of time
Wash over your profile,
The same waves that lash
And inflame me, cold waves
With gnashing teeth,
And waves like the grains
Of a head of wheat.

But
We are together,
We endure,
Guarding
Perhaps
Black or red sea foam
In our memories,
Wounds
Throbbing like lips or wings.
We walk together
Through streets and islands,
beneath the splintered violin
Of the raging wind,
Facing an enemy diety,
Quietly together,
A man and a woman.
