Announcing the new community for poets, Blockchain Poets!

Have you ever spent hours, days, months or even years pouring your heart into a poem only to receive zero feed back once it was posted? Did anybody even read it? Did they understand it? Did it stir any emotions in them? Did they enjoy it?

Every poet wants to be read. Our art is often overlooked and/or misunderstood. Over the years, I have seen a lot of great poetry go unnoticed after being posted on the blockchain or other mediums. The purpose of this community is to attempt to put a stop to that.

Someone should really be reading and appreciating our work, but who? The answer is US!
Who better to read and comment on poetry than poets? Who is more apt to understand the metaphors and rhythm of our pieces and appreciate the nuances. Who better to praise and critique? If not us, then who, indeed.

Blockchain Poets is a place where poets support each other through words of encouragement. We are starting off with a simple rule; Comment twice on two other author's poems for every poem you post. Of course, you are welcome and encouraged to comment as much as you'd like.

About two years ago, I wrote an article about How To Comment On Poetry. Below is an excerpt which some may find helpful.

@Moeknows step-by-step guide to commenting on poetry

  1. Read the poem (they're often quite short)
  2. Read it again (think about the words and pay attention to the details)
  3. Formulate an understanding of what the poem means to you.'
  4. Decide whether or not you like it. (This is important. Don't feel like you have to upvote or comment on something that you don't like)
  5. Think about specific aspects of the poem that you may like such as:
    A. a specific line or phrase
    B. The rhythm or timing
    C. The imagery (or the way the author described an object or scene)
    D. A twist or unexpected revelation
    E. The message (again as you understand it)
    F. Any other aspect you notice
  6. Begin the comment with something easy to add on to. I like to use the following:
    A. "I like..."
    B. "I loved how..."
    C. "Good poem. This is what I read into it..."
    D. "Great piece. The following lines struck me: "
  7. End your comment. I usually end by saying "Thanks for sharing" or "Looking forward to more"

And that's it. That’s a lot of writing for 7 simple steps, but I think it will be helpful for those who want to show more support to poets. Please keep in mind that these are my own theories and habits and someone is bound to disagree with them. That’s fine. Just do whatever works best for you. Just don’t let an author suffer The Silence if they don’t have to.

So come on in and post your best work. Engage and be engaged. I guarantee that you will be rewarded.

I'm not the best at advertising, so I would appreciate it if you would reblog this post.

P.S.

Please forgive if this is worded badly. It is 3am afterall.
