This poem is from my dark street collection.
It is more tuned to the urban audience. My goal is to give the reader a different perspective on the inner cities of America. Hope you guys like it.
How long will it take before you go and sale crack?
If you was down till your last.
Bout to get thrown out on yo ass.
No job cause you black.
They don't trust you like that.
Stomach in yo back,
you haven't ate since way back.
How long will it take before you go and sale crack?
Your Kids hungry too.
Baby needs some shoes.
Bills over due.
Rent late you.
And that raggedy ass car
They done repoed it back.
How long will it take before you go and sale crack?
You prayed to ya god,
But he didn't answer back.
You even gave money too.
Now you think you want it back.
Probably could have paid a bill with that.
How long will it take before you go and sale crack?
Baby mama tripping.
Ain't on food and the kitchen.
The roof needs a fixing.
You losing all ya kisses.
And on top of that,
the doctor got you prozac.
How long will it take before you go and sale crack.

You tried flipping burgers, but minimum wage not enough.
You feel like giving up.
You still fucked up.
But you can fix it all if you go and sale that pack.
How long will it take before you go and sale crack?
You tried to join the army
But when your test came back.
Can't pass the ASVAB.
Cause you didn't get the same quality schooling the other kids had.
How long will it take before you go and sale crack?
Your friend cross town got
connections with the dealer.
Food in the freezer.
Driving a Beamer.
Got his babies and his lady.
Plus his pockets kinda fat
How long will it take before you go and sale crack?
He say the first package free.
You ain't gotta pay him back.
And in the second one,
You pay half of that.
How long will it take?
(Tell me that)
How long will it take?
(Answer that)
How long will it take before you go and sale crack?
You paid all your money back,
And you got your car back.
Plus your baby mama happy.
She done brought the kids back.
And all you had to do was go sale a little crack.
Your friend cross town got killed
In the field.
You shed so many tears, but you won't get him back.
6 feet deep in a casket.
He Gone just like that.
And all he ever did was went and sold a little crack.
You finally get busted.
Got sentence 10 years.
Your family in tears.
They Raided your home and turned in half the cash.
And all you ever did was went and sold a little crack.
Now you got friends in the graveyard
Friends on the state yard
You sit back and think about the time.
Wishing you can rewind.
And all you ever did was went and sold a little crack.
You go and serve your time for the crime you did.
Try and find a job, but they not hiring.
Cause you're convicted felon
And your family still struggling
How long will it take before you go and sale crack.

STOPIt isn't by choice that you do stuff that is whack. It is simply your only line of attack. If there were better options you wouldn't sell crack.
Growing up poor where you don't know where your next meal is coming from is thought to not exist in the United States. Somehow they never see the bad side of town and think, "How Could I Help?" They just act like it doesn't exist. They act like kids and families are not starving. Far too often it is folks that are working and trying to do the best that they can. Wages are not enough to make ends meet.
I grew up on the bad side of town and somehow escaped to find a brighter future but it is super hard to do. I'm hopeful that steemit and websites that pop up like it can give some people an opportunity that otherwise they never would have had.

thanks for your comment! You're right it is hard to escape. I've made it out myself. I was able to join the military. But for many of my friends they were not so lucky. This poem is just some of the issues many of my friends faced. They really are good hearted people that had to take a different route in life to feed their family.
