MISERABLE LOVE

When you face the door but you can't get out
and wish to be on the other side,
away from the screams, scoffs and shouts,

when you see the light seeping in
through the hinges of the door,
and feel the taunting smell of freedom,

when your heart flickers as a candle
left prey to the moody winds and
you hope it would make it through the day,

that's when you know you're trapped in
what they call miserable love,
a little space between the abyss and above.

The place where you feel each grain of sand
in that hourglass bringing you down swiftly;
buried alive, your body aching stuck in this rut.

There's only one push and all the charade falls,
though it won't happen unless you set the tone,
give that small nudge, leave ego and guilt aside!

In a short while, you'll switch roles and
it won't be easy to climb up the horse,
ride out the storm without getting wet!
