Naked (Original Poetry)

in #poetry5 years ago (edited)

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked

To be naked
Not in skin
But in desire
Mind and sin

To find comfort
Within the eyes
Of one beholding
All of your lies

To be accepted
In every way
For each thing you do
And all that you say

To be adored
Above all the rest
By the one person
That saw you best

To be chosen
Among the whole
To be loved
Heart, mind and soul

To be a partner
Committed for life
To be a husband
To be a wife

To be naked
Not in your skin
But in your wants
Your fear and your sin

Too many do run
So quickly they hide
Upon another
Seeing inside

Be for me naked
Let go of shame
Muster the courage
To see we're the same.

For to be hidden
Is not to be
Take off your mask
Reveal your whole self to me

Wow, beautiful, powerful!

Thanks. You can probably tell, but it's more than a mere poem. It's an interpretation of the BIble verse at the beginning. I have wondered for some time if their "eyes" being opened is also a deeper metaphor for the birth of their egos and consequently them now considering themselves to be "I's."

fig leaf
noun
a leaf of a fig tree, often used for concealing the genitals in paintings and sculpture.
a thing intended to conceal a difficulty or embarrassment.
"the amendment was just a fig leaf intended to cover the cracks in the party"

The next passage says they made aprons from fig leaves. Which I think this definition suggests may mean more than covering up flesh, but the parts of ourselves we're ashamed to reveal to others.
