Decay

The grass grows tall
and the car collects grime.
How the mighty fall
with the passage of time.

So many missed opportunities
with chance in the present to replace.
Like the cold winter's frost
melts to show the spring's face.

Neglect is but a shift
of a larger priority.
From the ashes I lift
above the stale majority

I quit smoking a week ago. This is the longest I've gone in 6 years without a cigarette. I've felt really depressed, I'm not sure if it is the nicotine withdrawal or the realization that I'm going nowhere fast. Either way, I have been writing poetry to cope with sadness.
