Carrying the torch of humanity
I stared into the eyes of this cage,
Beautiful walls encaved with gold.
I imagined a brighter place,
As we walked, we talked for days,
Handcuffs surrounding my wrist,
These walls I paved.
Knowing no poverty I sneered,
Staring outside at you,
I asked you here,
the walls stayed bright,
And the gold was swayed,
But looking back at you, you refused,
Shaking your head,
You wanted no part,
Of the life I led.
Nights I spent within these walls,
Admiring the gold, I was prison to these thoughts,
Unhappiness brought grief,
And with every thought of your life, brought relief,
But freedom of gold,
was to much to hold,
So instead I stayed
To live within these walls,
For the rest of my days.
