THE TRUTH SHE MUST KNOW

I have wandered this desert fruitlessly,
Memories of starvation of the love I seek
Have become my unpleasant loyal companions
This scorching sun of rejection,
Of love unrequited,
Makes me wonder why I wander.

For a paradise like no other,
Was where I imagined I was headed
But like a ball thrown in swirling water
I kept moving round in fruitless circles

Until I came to rest atop a lovely island
An island so beautiful I thought it a dream
Lined at its borders with shining corals
Serenely, it called out to my heart

Evident in its expertly manicured surroundings
Is a diligent queen that tends its beauty
After walking its length in earnest search of this queen,
Certain, I was brought here for a purpose,

With a my ember of hope already growing dim
Her uniquely picturesque castle I found
From her window, I watched her elegance materialise
Try as I might,
To convince her to grant me entrance,

Locked doors I have found all round
"Time and trust" she kept repeating
Even her windows I tried to scale
But electrocution kept me at bay

And like a circled porcupine
She protects her tender heart with an army,
How I got here, I can't figure out,
Some days, i wish I arrived earlier,
Other days, I just wish I never came

But here is a truth she must know :
Either she opens her heart to me
Or here, right outside her heart's entrance
I shall spend the rest of my days.
