The Day That Shouldn’t Have Been.

A blind date
without your blessings;
momma, it was harmless.

We would see a movie.
She would come with a baby.
We’ll talk and laugh and make fun of all.
Run out of topics, agree to leave, then turn around and stall.

I would look into her eyes.
She would look into mine.
It won’t really feel like paradise.
It won’t really shine.

But I’d have to smile anyway.
Hold her gaze then look away.
Thank her sincerely
for the day that might not have been.

But momma,
things sometimes
don’t go the way we planned them to.

She never came with the baby.
She said something came up.
We still had to see the movie.
It was why we came out.

We talked and laughed
and made fun of all.
We never ran out
of things to say at all.

I held that gaze
for a little too long and had to plant a kiss.
Now I’m writing this
wishing that day had never been.

My love for poems is inexhaustible, this is quite a lovely piece. More grease to your elbow friend.

I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
